After receiving news that her mother has streaked at a Revolutionary War re-enactment, Fanny returns to her hometown in rural Massachusetts to find that the historical society she grew up in is falling to pieces, and her mother's action may not have been a protest against historical inaccuracy, as Fanny first believed, but a sign of failing health.
